What are students taught at Universities like MAJU?

Refer to the 2 images in my blog. One was posted on August 31, 2010 and the other one on September 29, 2010. If i ask you to chalk out the differences between the 2, it will be quite obvious to point out what i am trying to hint at.
A friend posted the MAJU image on my wall today and i was shocked. If a university student likes the idea of another university marketing society, he can atleast amend it before publishing it. By amending it, i do not mean just changing the name of the university, but i mean changing the text, graphics and colours AT-LEAST. If our students aren't taught the basics of plagiarism and using their brains, then what worth is a degree? If by simply copying stuff, one tends to benefit from a few "compliments" would this last? Would this guarantee a place in an organization? Would you be able to prove your worth and survive in the competitive job market? I doubt!

So a piece of advice to all SZABISTIANS.. Do not ever do what MAJU just did..coz it takes years to create goodwill for yourself and your institution and a single act of yours can lead to a negative image for your alma mater.

  1. Couldnt agree more, very well said. it is just so sad, and reflects how poor the creativity and originality levels students at MAJU may possess.

  2. well before passing judgment at other!! A society at SZABIST has copied the entire logo from a society in LUMS!!! except from changing the L - for LUMS to an S - for SZABIST, the font and everything is the same :) And the society at LUMS is over a decade old :)

  3. Very rightly stated by Zahra.. The last para should be put up around Szabist. :)
But, we simply cannot judge a whole institute on the basis of a random act committed by one of it's students.

  4. With all the due respect we shouldn't judge an institution or their students by one person's actions. It's not fair & this is the very same mistake that some of the westerners are doing when it comes to Pakistan or Muslims.

Should we expect them to understand our point of view when we ourselves aren't following what we preach?

Let's be considerate & try to avoid negativity & start seeing things optimistically. Others may commit mistakes, just as we do a times, however let's not start framing Organizations on basis of few incidents :)

  5. I think it was just one dumb act by an ignorant student, or a lazy one at that.
Degrading the whole Institution's name because of this by questioning their teaching methods begs to question your own integrity and the things you yourself have been taught on how to deal with things in life.
Creating an issue on two bit colors and 6 words? God! I mean why don't you start getting your works patented? Feel free to sue them in court for stealing your Kinder Garden ideas then.
Till then, stop creating an issue over nothing. Believe me, there's nothing creative in that.

  6. HAHA Well written I must admit.

Anyways, I don't think we can judge an institute based on one student's stupidity =P

Pretty sure every university (even SZABIST) has that one student who just didn't consider using his brain one fine day.... LOL... But who ever this person was, he sure was realllllyyy not thinking things through

  7. Eye-opening :)

But don't we all commit plagiarism at times? Reports, projects, write ups anyone? :) It's just the matter of being CAUGHT!
